The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olawale Waidi Shaibu, has declared open the 2026 Training Workshop of the Nigerian Army School of Legal Services, NASLS, in Zaria.
The workshop brings together legal practitioners from the Nigerian Army, security and law enforcement agencies, academia and the judiciary to strengthen legal capacity and promote synergy in military operations.
Declaring the workshop open, the COAS stressed the need for operational effectiveness to be guided by the Constitution, extant laws, international legal obligations and established Rules of Engagement.
The chiefs of Army staff represented by commandant infantry,Major General Muhammad Nura Inuwa urged participants to maximise the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, noting that legal officers are critical partners in operational planning and decision-making.
Lieutenant General Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights and the rule of law in its operations.
He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his strategic guidance and support to the Nigerian Army.
With the theme, “Combating Insecurity in Nigeria: The Role of Law in Ensuring Operational Efficiency,” the four-day workshop is expected to enhance participants’ understanding of the legal framework governing military operations and improve operational effectiveness.
