The Commander, Corps of Engineers (CCE), Major General ST Shafaru, has charged newly promoted senior officers to rededicate themselves to service in the Nigerian Army.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Maidawa, Assistant Director Army Public Relations,Nigerian Army Engineers said he made the call during the investiture ceremony for officers elevated from Major to Lieutenant Colonel, held at the Sappers Officers’ Mess, Bonny Cantonment, Lagos.
Addressing the celebrants, the Chief Sapper urged them to strive for their next substantive rank, saying, “Work hard towards the next substantive rank; never rest on your oars.” He reminded the officers that greater responsibility brings greater visibility and expectations, citing the adage, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” He also emphasized the need to prioritize troops’ welfare and unit cohesion, adding, “Your real command starts now.”
Major General Shafaru thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NAM, for his strategic guidance and continued support to the Nigerian Army Engineers (NAE).
In his remarks, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters NAE, Brigadier General AM Jungudo, advised the promoted officers not to regard their elevation as mere decoration but as recognition of hard work, dedication, and distinguished service. He urged them to take an active interest in the development of their subordinates. Other senior officers congratulated the celebrants and encouraged them to align with the direction of the service.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the promoted officers, Lieutenant Colonel AA Johnson thanked the COAS for the elevation and expressed appreciation to the CCE for his guidance and purposeful leadership. The officers decorated were Lieutenant Colonel AA Johnson, Lieutenant Colonel M Maidawa, Lieutenant Colonel BO Oni, and Lieutenant Colonel T Usman.
Highlights of the occasion included the decoration of the senior officers with new rank badges, encouragement from senior officers, remarks by the CCE, a group photograph, and refreshments.
