    COAS COMMISSIONS RSM ACCOMMODATION, REAFFIRMS TROOPS’ WELFARE COMMITMENT

    The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, has commissioned a newly constructed Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) accommodation at the 51 Signals Brigade, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu NAM.

    A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Yake Jingina Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations,1 Division Nigerian Army/ Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the commissioning ceremony took place on 13 July 2026 by the Chief of Staff, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, who represented the GOC.

    The project was executed under the Nigerian Army Special Projects Programme, an initiative directed by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM. This programme underscores the Nigerian Army’s strategic focus on upgrading infrastructure to enhance the welfare, morale, and operational efficiency of its personnel.

    Speaking on behalf of the GOC, Brigadier General Opurum emphasized that personnel welfare remains a top priority for the COAS. He noted that providing standard, dignified housing for RSMs reflects leadership’s resolve to create a conducive living and working environment. This, he added, will further inspire personnel to maintain the highest levels of discipline, dedication, and professionalism in their constitutional duties.

    The GOC’s representative urged the beneficiary to take ownership of the new facility. He stressed that preserving military infrastructure is a collective responsibility and demanded a strict maintenance culture to ensure the building’s longevity. He also lauded the COAS for the foresight in establishing the Special Projects Programme, which continues to transform infrastructure across formations nationwide.

    In his remarks, the Commander of the 51 Signals Brigade, Brigadier General OO Okungbure expressed profound gratitude to the COAS for approving the project and thanked the GOC 1 Division for his steadfast leadership and guidance. He assured the high command that the accommodation would be effectively utilized and meticulously maintained for present and future occupants.

    The ceremony concluded with the official cutting of the ribbon to commission the RSM quarters, a guided physical inspection of the newly completed facility and a group photograph to commemorate the milestone.

    The event was well attended by senior military officers, officers, Regimental Sergeant Majors, soldiers of the 51 Signals Brigade, and invited dignitaries.
