l The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, 27 August 2026, joined the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police, as well as other senior military and security leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for the Second Edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Presentation of Financial Support to Widows of Fallen Heroes of the Armed Forces and Police. Organised by the Office of the First Lady under the RHI Social Investment Programme, the initiative provides financial assistance to families of personnel who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.
The COAS commended the initiative as a profound demonstration of national appreciation and solidarity with the families of fallen heroes, stressing that caring for those they left behind remains a collective and enduring responsibility. He noted that sustained support for the families of fallen personnel not only honours their sacrifice but also reinforces the morale, commitment and fighting spirit of serving troops.
Lieutenant General Shaibu expressed appreciation to the First Lady and the Renewed Hope Initiative for complementing ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to strengthen the welfare of personnel and their families. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to honouring its fallen heroes and ensuring that their families continue to receive the dignity, care and support they deserve, emphasising that the nation’s obligation to its heroes extends beyond their sacrifice to the wellbeing of those they left behind.
