The Commander Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison, Major General John Lar, has on Thursday, 23 July 2026, called for enhanced cooperation, coordination and intelligence sharing among security stakeholders to strengthen the security of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the nation at large. He made this known during a courtesy visit to the Commander Guards Brigade, Brigadier General ADEBISI Onasanya as part of his familiarization tour to units.
This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Bashir Muhammad Jajira,Acting Deputy Director Army Headquarters Garrison Public Relations issued to newsmen.
While giving his remarks, Maj Gen Lar stated that his visit was aimed at reinforcing the existing cordial relationship between both formations. He further described Guards Brigade as a major stakeholder in the security architecture of the FCT, adding that he deliberately reserved Guards Brigade for a separate engagement because of its strategic role in ensuring security of the nations capital.
He reiterated the strategic importance of Abuja, noting that any security breach within or around the FCT attracts national attention and has implications for the country’s image. He further stated that communities bordering the FCT are in close proximity to the capital, making collaboration, proactive intelligence gathering and timely information sharing indispensable in addressing emerging security challenges.
The Commander AHQ Garrison emphasized his commitment to supporting the Guards Brigade in achieving its operational tasks and assured the formation of AHQ Garrison’s readiness to provide assistance whenever required.
Earlier giving his remarks, the Commander Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya congratulated the Commander AHQ Garrison on his well deserved appointment, describing it as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in him by the Chief of Army Staff.
He stated that the synergy established between Guards Brigade and AHQ Garrison over the years has significantly contributed to maintaining peace and stability within the FCT. He assured the Commander AHQ Garrison that the brigade would continue to sustain the existing cooperation in operational engagements, training activities and other areas of interest while remaining committed to ensuring that no security breach occurs within its areas of responsibility.
Highlights of the event included signing of the visitor’s book, exchange of souvenirs as well as group photograph.
