The Commander Infantry Corps (CIC), Major General Godwin Mutkut has conducted a two-days operational assessment visit to the Headquarters 18 Brigade(HQ 18 Bde)/Sector 2 Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD (Sect 2 OPSS) Bida, Niger State where he encouraged troops to sustain ongoing offensive operations against terrorist and other criminal elements threatening the peace and security of the state.

A statement signed by Captain Adebayo Samuel Adewumi,Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations,HQ 18 Bde Bida said the visit which took place between Friday 24 – Saturday 25 July 2026, is part of the Commander Infantry Corps’ routine engagements to evaluate operational effectiveness, boost troops morale and ensure the welfare of soldiers deployed on internal security operations.

While addressing the troops, Major General Mutkut conveyed the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff(COAS), Lt Gen Waidi Shuaibu for their gallantry and dedication in combating terrorism. “On behalf of the COAS, I am happy for the good work you soldiers are doing in combating terrorism. However, you must redouble your efforts towards eradicating the untoward situation completely” he stated.

The Commander reminded personnel of the various welfare packages put in place by the Army to enhance the welfare of troops and their families which will translate into operational success. He therefore charged them to reciprocate this by remaining disciplined and mission-focused. “With these allowances you enjoy, you have no reason to misbehave. Rather, you should double your efforts,” he said.

General Mutkut warned against acts inimical to the ethics, customs and traditions of the Nigerian Army(NA), stressing that the service has zero tolerance for drug abuse, theft, fighting and the abuse of social media. The Commander Infantry Corps also urged the soldiers not to neglect their families, noting that a stable home front contributes to operational effectiveness.

Earlier, the Commander 18 Brigade/Sect 2 OPSS Brigadier General Hassan Toro briefed the Commander Infantry Corps on the security situation, operational achievements and challenges within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility

In a related engagement, Major General Mutkut addressed the “Magajiyas” and wives of soldiers. He described them as “the real unsung heroes” whose support and sacrifices help stabilize the home front and ensure the mental stability of troops deployed in the field. After the address, the Commander Infantry Corps toured key facilities within Litani Barracks, Bida, including ongoing structural projects.

Present at the occasion were Commander 1 National Mission Force (1NMF) Brigade Brigadier General OO Coker, members of the assessment team; Col MM Marwa, Col JK Adisa and Lt Col SS Ogundele alongside staff officers from HQ 18 Bde and HQ 1 NMF Bde.
