The Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST), Major General Nansak Shagaya, undertook an operational visit to 74 Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) Reserve Depot, Abakaliki, where he commissioned the newly remodelled Quarter Guard, a structure that reflects the unit’s pride, discipline, and professionalism. The project forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and strengthen operational efficiency across Supply and Transport formations and units of the Nigerian Army.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Sani Haladu ,Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport said the visit, which forms part of the Commander’s operational assessment of Corps formations and units, was aimed at evaluating the operational readiness, administrative efficiency and professional standards of the Depot in line with the Corps’ mandate of providing effective combat service support to the Nigerian Army.
On arrival, the Corps Commander was received by the Commanding Officer, 74 POL Reserve Depot, Lieutenant Colonel Bartholomew Joseph, who presented a comprehensive briefing on the unit’s operational activities, logistics support capabilities, ongoing projects and other key achievements.
He expressed appreciation to Major General Shagaya for his visionary leadership and sustained efforts at improving standards across the Corps, noting that the Commander’s initiatives have continued to strengthen the operational effectiveness and preparedness of the unit within its area of responsibility.
Lieutenant Colonel Joseph further described the operational visit as timely and highly motivating, adding that it has boosted the morale of officers and soldiers while reaffirming the Corps Headquarters’ commitment to the welfare, professional development and operational effectiveness of personnel.
Addressing officers and soldiers of the Unit, Major General Shagaya commended them for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty. He urged them to remain disciplined, loyal and mission focused while maintaining the highest standards of efficiency in the execution of their responsibilities.
The Corps Commander also reiterated the Corps’ Command Philosophy: “To advance the development of a highly proficient Supply and Transport Corps capable of efficiently supporting the Nigerian Army to fulfil its constitutional responsibilities in all missions.” He charged personnel to internalise the philosophy by embracing professionalism, innovation, teamwork and selfless service, while remaining resolute in supporting the Nigerian Army’s constitutional mandate.
Highlighting the importance of functional infrastructure in enhancing operational effectiveness, Major General Shagaya commissioned the newly remodelled Quarter Guard executed by the Commanding Officer. He commended the initiative, describing it as a reflection of purposeful leadership, prudent resource management and commitment to improving the unit’s operational environment.
The operational visit culminated in the official commissioning of the Quarter Guard, the signing of the visitors’ book and a group photograph with officers and soldiers of the Depot.
