The Nigerian Army deserves commendation for the successful rescue of the wife of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar from the Matazu forest in Katsina State.

This operation was carried out with professionalism, courage, and clear planning under difficult conditions. It brings relief to a family grieving a painful loss, and it gives the nation a reason to believe that decisive action is possible.

The rescue shows what can be achieved when intelligence is matched with determination on the ground. For too long, forests and remote areas have served as safe havens for criminal groups.

This mission proves that such spaces can be reached, cleared, and denied to those who threaten public safety. It reinforces the responsibility of the Armed Forces to protect all citizens, regardless of status.

To the officers and men who executed this task, the institution and the public acknowledge your service. Your actions honor the legacy of General Abubakar and reflect the core values of the Nigerian military.

We urge the Nigerian Army to maintain this tempo. Consistency in operations, better coordination with local communities, and sustained logistical support will produce more results like Matazu.

To every soldier on the frontline: continue the work. Stay alert, stay united, and keep pushing.

The nation sees your sacrifice, trusts your capacity, and stands with you until peace is fully restored.

    Adamu Aminu writes from Kano.
