… REAFFIRMS ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CRIME, STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY POLICING STRATEGY

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on sustained community engagement, today, 24th April 2026, convened a high-impact Stakeholders’ Town Hall Meeting at the Uyo Area Command.

The engagement was presided over by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, and had in attendance key strategic stakeholders including Area Commanders, Heads of Departments, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers under Uyo Area Command, representatives of transport unions, market women associations, youth groups, traditional rulers, political actors, captains of industry, sister security agencies, members of the press, and government functionaries.

A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Timfon John on behalf of the state commissioner of police Baba Mohammad Azare said the meeting, which commenced at about 0900hrs and concluded at 1320hrs, was orderly, impactful, and devoid of any security breach.

Addressing participants, the Commissioner of Police emphasized that the engagement is part of a deliberate and structured policing strategy mandated by the Inspector-General of Police to deepen trust, enhance information sharing, and strengthen collaboration between the Police and the public.

He reiterated that security is a collective responsibility and called on all stakeholders to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and proactive in reporting suspicious activities within their communities. He stressed that intelligence-led policing remains the most effective tool in combating crime and assured the public of the Command’s readiness to respond swiftly to all distress calls.

The CP further addressed the critical issue of political activities within the State, warning that all political rallies, meetings, and gatherings must be duly communicated to and approved by the Police to ensure proper security coordination. He cautioned against any form of unlawful assembly, incitement, or actions capable of disrupting public peace, noting that the Command will decisively deal with any violators.

In a strong message on discipline and accountability, CP Azare encouraged members of the public to report any form of misconduct by police personnel through the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), reaffirming the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and respect for human rights.

The Command also used the opportunity to strengthen synergy with sister security agencies and critical stakeholders, reinforcing a united front against criminality in all its forms.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command assures the good people of the State that it remains fully prepared, strategically positioned, and operationally capable of maintaining law and order across all parts of the State.

Members of the public are once again urged to cooperate with security agencies and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station.
