The Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a historic salary increment for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
General Musa, on behalf of the military establishment and the Ministry of Defence, expressed appreciation to the President for approving between thirty and eighty per cent salary increase for military personnel.
The Minister said the new salary structure, which takes effect from the first of September, 2026, will directly benefit about two hundred and fifty thousand personnel across the three services of the Armed Forces.
He described the initiative as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational effectiveness of troops.
General Musa explained that the salary package provides an eighty per cent increase for personnel from the rank of Private to Staff Sergeant, fifty per cent for Warrant Officers to Colonels, while senior military officers will receive a thirty per cent increase.
He said the adjustment would serve as a major morale booster for troops engaged in various operations across the country.
The Defence Minister in a statement by his Special Assistant Media Leah Katung-Babatunde note that the increase in personnel cost from six hundred and sixty billion naira to nine hundred and twenty-four billion naira reflects the President’s commitment to the welfare of the nation’s armed forces.
He assured that the gesture would be reciprocated through renewed commitment, discipline, and improved effectiveness in tackling security challenges.
General Christopher Musa urged officers and men of the Armed Forces to see the salary increase as a renewed call to duty and continue to work towards safeguarding the nation.
