Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda has today, 10 August 2026, formally inaugurated the 91 Regular Recruits Intake (91RRI) in a colourful and impressive ceremony, marking the commencement of another phase of basic military training for the newly enlisted recruits.
A statement signed by Captain Serah Seth Barka Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda said the event signalled the beginning of their transformation from civilians into disciplined soldiers of the Nigerian Army, ready to embrace the demands and responsibilities of military service.
The inauguration marks the commencement of foundational military training for the 91RRI at Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, where the recruits will undergo a rigorous and comprehensive training programme designed to develop their physical fitness, mental resilience, military bearing, discipline and professional competence. The training is aimed at transforming the young Nigerian men and women into disciplined, combat-ready and professionally competent soldiers capable of contributing effectively to the defence of the nation and the accomplishment of assigned operational tasks.
In his inaugural address, the Commandant Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, Brigadier General Ahmed Maikudi Ahmadu, charged the recruits to embrace discipline, resilience, loyalty and professionalism as they commence their military careers. He emphasised that the Depot remains committed to producing disciplined, highly motivated and combat-ready soldiers in line with the professional standards of the Nigerian Army. He further stressed that the intensive training and character development programme would equip the recruits with the requisite military skills, values and ethos necessary for effective service to the nation.
The Commandant reminded the recruits that the Oath of Allegiance they had taken was not merely a ceremonial requirement but a solemn covenant with the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He therefore urged them to approach their training with utmost seriousness, dedication and determination, stressing that the nation expects nothing less than excellence from those entrusted with the responsibility of defending its territorial integrity and protecting its citizens. He further encouraged the recruits to consider their enlistment into the Nigerian Army a privilege and an opportunity to serve their fatherland with honour, courage and selfless commitment.
The high point of the ceremony was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance to the recruits by the Adjutant, Depot Nigerian Army, Captain Auwal Haladu Buba. The oath-taking ceremony underscored the solemn commitment and loyalty expected of every soldier as they embark on their military journey. In taking the oath, the recruits pledged their allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and undertook to uphold the Constitution, obey lawful orders and abide by the rules and regulations governing recruits under training and members of the Nigerian Army.
The ceremony further witnessed the presence of senior officers, instructors and other personnel of Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, who witnessed the formal induction of the recruits into the training environment. The event provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Depot’s enduring mandate of producing well-trained, disciplined and professionally grounded soldiers capable of meeting the evolving security demands of the nation.
The ceremony concluded with a group photograph with the Commandant, senior officers, instructors and the newly inaugurated 91 Regular Recruits Intake.
