The Director General, Nigerian Army Finance Corporation (NAFIC), Major General JE Osifo, has urged troops in 81 Division Area of Responsibility to take full advantage of the various welfare schemes established by the Nigerian Army for its personnel.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya Acting Deputy’ director army public relations,81 division Nigerian army said he made this call on 6 May 2026, during a sensitization lecture on the Nigerian Army Personnel Insurance Scheme (NAPIS) and other welfare initiatives, held at the Hippo Officers’ Mess, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Declaring the seminar open, Major General Osifo disclosed that the sensitization programme, which commenced about four weeks ago, has involved visits to major formations and theatres of operation across the country. According to him, the aim is to educate officers and soldiers on the wide range of impactful welfare packages provided by the Nigerian Army.
He described NAPIS as a comprehensive insurance scheme designed to provide coverage for personnel against service-related risks, including injuries, disabilities, medical expenses, and death. He explained that the lecture was structured to enlighten participants on the scope of coverage, outline the step-by-step process for filing claims, and highlight the benefits payable to next of kin in the event of death.
The DG emphasized the importance of carefully selecting and updating next of kin details, urging personnel to make informed decisions. He further encouraged officers and soldiers to key into the welfare schemes, noting that failure to enroll may result in loss of entitlements. Major General Osifo also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, for his sustained commitment to improving the welfare of officers, soldiers, and their families.
In a welcome address delivered on behalf of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General AA Babalola, the Commander 45 Engineer Brigade, Brigadier General MO Momoh, described the sensitization lecture as a vital assurance of care rather than mere administrative policy. He noted that the scheme represents a firm commitment by the Nigerian Army to protect its most valuable asset which is its personnel.
The GOC stated that military service entails significant risks, whether in the frontline or during training, and emphasized that no personnel should feel that their welfare is uncertain. He added that the seminar would empower officers and soldiers with the knowledge required to access their benefits without delays or complications.
He also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for his continued support to the Division and commended the facilitators for their dedication to personnel welfare.
Participants, drawn from units and formations within 81 Division Area of Responsibility, were encouraged to actively engage, ask questions, and share the knowledge gained with their colleagues. The one-day workshop featured comprehensive lectures on Nigerian Army welfare policies and concluded with an interactive session, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
