The Council of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) has approved the conferment of the prestigious Fellowship Award of the Institute on Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), at the 47th Annual Conference of NIP.
A statement signed by Nuhu Basheer Musa, personal assistant media and communication to the DG Nilest said the award was conferred in recognition of Dr. Imam’s longstanding contributions to the field of Physics through teaching, research, academic development, and professional service.
The conferment ceremony took place at the Conference Centre of Lead City University in Ibadan, under the leadership of the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Physics, Professor J. O. Coker.
“This is to certify that Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam has satisfied the conditions laid down in the Institute’s Constitution and By-laws and is elected a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Physics. He is, by this position, fully entitled to all the privileges granted by the Constitution,” the award reads.
Dr. Imam previously served as President of the National Association of Physics Students (NAPS), Bayero University Kano Chapter. He obtained his M.Sc. in Electronics from Bayero University Kano and his PhD in Physics from University Technology Malaysia (UTM).
His academic career began at Bayero University Kano before he moved to Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), where he rose through the ranks to a Senior Lecturer in January 2022. He also served as Head of the Department of Physics with Electronics at the institution.
Dr. Imam is currently a Visiting Lecturer in Physics with Electronics at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), as well as at a foreign university. He has been a registered member of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (MNIP) since 2015 and has continued to contribute actively to the advancement of Physics education and research.
Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, FNIP, was among 25 distinguished scholars and professionals across the country honoured with the NIP Fellowship Award.
