The troops of Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army Enugu have distinguished themselves at the Nigerian Army Inter-Division Combat Platoon Obstacle Crossing Competition 2026.
A statement signed by Captain Taiwo Oluwafemi,Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations,401 Special Forces Brigade Nigerian Army said the event took place from 20 – 24 July 2026 at 401 Special Forces Brigade, Makurdi and hosted by 4 Special Forces Command Nigerian Army.
The week-long competition which fixtures 1 Division Kaduna, 2 Division Ibadan, 3 Division Jos, 6 Division Kaduna, 8 Division Sokoto, 81 Division Lagos, 82 Division Enugu, Army Headquarters Garrison Abuja,4 Special Forces Command and Nigerian Army Women Command contested keenly in the rigorous competition.
The Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM who was represented bt the Force Commander Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara said the competition is in line with the Army Headquarters’ training directives and forecast of events.
He said “the glamorous outing is in no doubt a culmination of hard work, discipline and resourcefulness put in at various levels of preparation by the various formations. Most importantly, purposeful training which is the bedrock of military professionalism was the catalyst to what we have witnessed during this competition. Therefore, the just concluded competition is not only timely but key in improving the combat readiness of our soldiers”.
He added that lessons learnt, observations as well as the new skills brought out during the competition will be an added value to training and operations within the Nigeria Army at large. He further said,
weaknesses would be strengthened and those areas of strength would be consolidated upon while congratulating the outstanding formations during the competition and as well urged others to strive harder and showcase a better outing in future competitions. In all, 82 Division came first position while 1 Division took 2nd position and Army Headquarters Garrison came 3rd.
In attendance were father of COAS, MWO Shaibu Otairu (Retired), Special Adviser to Benue State Governor on External Security Matters Hon Alex Igbaya, heads of services and security agencies, principal staff officers from Army Headquarters and formations, senior officers, members of Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association amongst others.
High points of the event were presentation of awards and trophies to the outstanding formations, medals to individuals who distinguished themselves during the competition, presentation of souvenirs, colourful dance display as well as group photograph.
