The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has commissioned an ultra-modern abattoir and distributed hundreds of cows and rams to butchers and livestock traders in Kasuwan Amaru, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting him the opportunity to execute the project.
He also appreciated the support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose approval and assistance, he said, contributed significantly to the successful completion of the project.
The Speaker described the establishment of the modern abattoir as a major milestone in the development of the livestock and meat-processing sector in Zaria, noting that residents had long yearned for such a facility.
According to him, the abattoir will improve hygiene standards, enhance meat processing and preservation, create employment opportunities, and boost economic activities within the community and beyond.
Rt. Hon. Abbas further stated that the distribution of cows and rams was aimed at supporting butchers and livestock traders, improving their businesses, and enhancing their means of livelihood.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Zaria Local Government Area, Engr. Muhammad Jamilu Ahmad, commended the Speaker for constructing the ultra-modern abattoir and providing cows and rams worth millions of naira to support butchers and strengthen their businesses.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support provided, emphasizing that the intervention was designed to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the local economy.
Also speaking at the event, former Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, described the initiative as a timely intervention that would significantly contribute to the growth and development of the livestock and meat-processing business in Zaria Local Government Area.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Zaria Local Government Traders Association, Alhaji Yawale Dan Goma, and the Chairman of the Butchers Association in Zaria Local Government Area, Alhaji Sani Bata, expressed appreciation to Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen for the gesture, noting that it would greatly improve the economic wellbeing of their members.
The event attracted a large turnout of dignitaries and community members, including the Chairman of the North-West Development Commission, Lawal Sama’ila Abdullahi; the APC North-West Zonal Chairman, Hon. Datti Babawo; Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi; commissioners, political leaders, and other stakeholders from across Kaduna State.
