    FARMER GOVERNOR BAGO ENJOINS NIGERLITES TO ESCHEW TRIBAL BIGOTRY; INSTITUTES PEACE AND RECONCILIATORY COMMITTEE IN BORGU

    Niger State governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has emphasised the need for the residents of the state to desist from tribal bigotry which has been detrimental to peaceful co-existence among the citizenry.

    A statement signed by Bologi Ibrahim Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said the farmer governor made the call at the Palace of the Emir of Borgu, Muhammad Sani Haliru Kitoro during a sympathy visit to commiserate with the representatives of fulani,Boko,Kambari,and Barigawa communities involved in communal clashes that resulted in the death of many people

    Farmer Umaru Bago who described the recent communal clashes in some parts of the State as unfortunate and shameful said, at a time when the State is faced with alot of insecurity challenges, people ought to be more concerned about restoring sanity and not make matters worse.

    Farmer Bago appealed for calm among the people and added that, through concerted efforts from the federal government, the cases of insecurity has been reduced significantly.

    The farmer governor commiserated with the Emir and entire people of Borgu Kingdom and directed that a peace and reconciliatory committee be constituted to address the root causes of the conflict .

    Farmer Umara Bago also urged the people to let peace reign, obey stipulated laws and respect other people’s right to live.

    In his remarks, the Emir of Borgu, Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III appreciated the farmer governor for his tireless intervention in the Emirate and his efforts in curtailing insecurity, admitting that appreciable progress has been recorded.

    He however called for a more concerted effort to bring it to an end and restore peace in Borgu Kingdom, even as the Monarch cautioned against fake news peddlers who are fond of using the social media to bring confusion and panic.

    In their separate remarks, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Sen. Abdullahi Sabi Aliyu and the member representing Agwara/Borgu federal constituency, Jafaru Mohammed emphasized on the need for the people to live together as one and be tolerant of one another as enshrined in the holy books.

    The member representing Borgu constituency at the State House of Assembly, Abdulrahman Gambo as well as the Chairman, Borgu Local Government Council, Abdullahi Mohammed Nasir who commended the farmer governor for his efforts harped on the need to have meetings with all warring communities and fashion out ways to end communal clashes among them.

    Representatives from the Fulani, Kambari and Boko tribes who spoke at the event were full of appreciation to the fatherly role of the Emir and the leadership qualities exemplified by the farmer governor and reassured of their willingness to give peace a chance.

    There had been reports of communal clashes between the Fulanis, Kambaris Barigawas and the Bokos in Borgu Emirate of recent clash which has widely been attributed to reprisal attacks from all parties involved.
