The Federal government through its Nigerian Consumer credit corporation (CREDICORP) initiative has deployed one hundred and twenty (120) units of compressed Natural Gas tricycles to empower youths in ADAMAWA state
Speaking at the empowerment programme in Yola, Adamawa state capital on Wednesday, representative of the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas (PI-CNG), Mr. Jide Owolowo, said the initiative was aimed at supporting Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more affordable transportation.
Owolowo explained that the PI-CNG so far converted over 120,000 vehicles from petrol to CNG noting that efforts are on to expand the refuelling infrastructure and develop local technical capacity.
He also announced that the initiative had already facilitated distribution of over 4,000 CNG-powered tricycles across the country.
Earlier in her welcome address, Mrs Olanike Kolawale,Executive Director in charge of Operations CREDICORP pointed out that the corporation has a broader mandate for the deployment of 10,000 CNG vehicles nationwide with Adamawa’s roll out being fourth in the series.
Kolawale advanced that, the initiative relates consumers with productive assets through licensed financial institutions, manufacturers and vendors with responsible credit repayment at the center of the program.
The Managing Director of Sub-City Global Consult, Malam Umar Tolihat Imam, said the partnership was designed to empower young Nigerians through mobility services and sustainable economic opportunities.
Imam stressed that the beneficiaries are provided with platforms for them to make instalment payments on the tricycles so that they own productive assets,create employment opportunities,generate income and build a more sustainable future for themselves and their families.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the tricycles responsibly, comply with the terms of the programme and make their instalment payments as scheduled.
“This initiative is in line with the Renewed hope agenda of His Excellency, president Bola Tinubu which places strong emphasis on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship,job creation, and inclusively in economic development
“The initiative was supported by financial institutions, manufacturers and other partners involved in the financing, supply and mobilisation of beneficiaries”.Imam added.
In his remarks Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri expressed satisfaction and gratitude with the intervention describing it as good investment in the younger generation.
Represented by the Rumpe Anthony, commissioner of Transport, Fintiri said that the initiative is a source of income and financial independence for the youths urging them to ensure timely repayment of the loan so that others can access it too.
Fintiri said that the initiative is a cleaner and sustainable transportation leverage for all and sundry.
The 120 CNG tricycles are expected to provide beneficiaries with opportunities for income generation while contributing to cleaner mobility and economic activity in Adamawa
