Over One hundred Communities in twenty Eight States including the Federal Capital Territory are likely to experience significant rainfall, drainage surcharge and river level rise that may lead to Flooding in these prone Communities within the next two weeks.
To the end, the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, National Flood Early Warning System Center described Communities in Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River and Delta Critical.
Others are Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nigeria, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Rivers and Taraba..
In a statement by the Director, Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Mr. Usman Bokani says many Communities in Adamawa, Federal Capital Territory, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Yobe and Zamfara are Volatile, hence the need for immediate flood watch, evacuation routes and protection of Vulnerable Households.
He emphasized that Communities classified as high risk areas should also intensify drainage clearance, Monitor Culvert and Stream Channel, maintain Community level reporting of rainfall, dam releases and river level changes .
Mr Bokani also urged state Controllers, State Emergency Management Agencies, Local Government Environmental officers and Community Flood Focal Persons to intensify surveillance around Rivers, Channel, Culvert, bridges and prone Corridors to safe lives and Property during and after the expected heavy rains
