The Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, has secured final approval from the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to train about 2,000 artisans in various vocational skills under the Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) Programme.

The approval was conveyed during a facilities inspection visit to the University on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, by a team of supervisors from the ITF Headquarters, Abuja, led by Mrs. Yarnap Omoniwa Femicit, Senior Training Development Officer (STDO), alongside Mr. Japheth D. Tokan, STDO, and Mr. Hassan Abubakar, Training Development Officer (TDO III).

The team was received by the Director of the Skills Development and Linkages Directorate, Prof. Amina Sani; the Director of Community Relations, Prof. Garba Lawal Sani; and staff of the Directorate, who conducted the visitors round various facilities designated for the training programme.

Under the initiative, the Directorate will train artisans in twelve skill areas: monograph skills, electrical installation, plumbing, catering, leather shoe and bag making, crop production, carpentry, tiling, painting and decoration, poultry production, hospitality, and building.

Following the approval, the Directorate is expected to commence the mobilisation and registration of prospective participants immediately. Registration will take place at the Directorate and will run for a period of two weeks, while the online registration can be completed through the link: https://supa.itf.gov.ng

The ITF team also advised the University to train at least 20 Quality Assurance Assessors (QAAs) to support the assessment and monitoring of the programme.

Members of the University community have also been encouraged to mobilise interested youths and wards to take advantage of the opportunity.

The programme is expected to enhance vocational competence, promote self-reliance, and contribute to skills development and employment generation.
