In his effort to familiarize and acquaint himself with formations and locations under his command, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Everest Okoro, embarks on Operational Visit to Headquarters 2 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA), Joint Task Force (JTF) Eket, JTF Oron, JTF Ikot Ekpene and 6 Battalion NA Wellington Bassy Barracks Ibagwa Abak, Akwa Ibom State. The visit commenced from 29 – 31 July 2026.
On arrival at the Headquarters 2 Brigade NA, Mbiokporo Military Cantonment Akwa Ibom State. The Commander 2 Brigade NA Brigadier General NE Okoloagu and other principal staff officers welcomed the GOC and briefed him on the Brigade’s operational activities and security situation within its area of responsibility.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam,Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Nigerian Army Public Relations said as part of the activities marking the visit, Brigadier General Okoloagu led the GOC on a guided tour of the Cantonment and visited the newly built Command Nursery/ Primary School and the ongoing construction of the Brigade’s Garrison office.
Addressing troops during the visit, the GOC charged them to sustain the existing inter-agency collaboration in their operations. Stating that they should sustain and step up collaboration with other security agencies, traditional leaders, youth leaders and other stakeholders. He added that all agencies are working for a common goal. He also emphasized the importance of the task of protecting critical national infrastructures, assets and innocent law-abiding citizens within the Niger Delta Region.
The GOC further urged troops to remain disciplined and conduct themselves in a professional manner while discharging their duties. He mentioned that this will ensure operational efficiency, enhance unit cohesion, and contribute to the successful accomplishment of missions while protecting lives and national security. The GOC equally emphasized on the need for troops to refrain from engaging in illegal activities, collaborating with oil bunkerers, criminals, and other unlawful groups. He stressed that such actions violate military ethics, undermine national security, damage the reputation of the armed forces, and may attract severe disciplinary action or legal consequences.
Major General Okoro thereafter, commended the troops for a job well-done, stressing that there is room for improvement. He urged the troops to continue to devise ingenious ways of keeping oil thieves out of business. He also encouraged all the agencies to continue to work in synergy, stressing that collectively they have the capacity to rid the region from oil theft, bunkering and pipeline vandalism, which can eventually result in an increase in the oil output. The visit demonstrated General Okoro’s commitment to ensure troops effectiveness and readiness in the discharge of their professional duties. Highlights of the visit included presentation of briefs and souvenirs, tree planting and group photograph.
