The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, has charged officers and soldiers of the Division to embrace financial prudence, make informed investment decisions and plan adequately for a secure post-service life. The GOC gave the charge on27 August 2026, during a one-day Seminar on Financial Wellness and Investment Education held at the Hippo Officers’ Mess, Outer Marina, Victoria Island, Lagos.

This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya Acting Deputy director army public relations 81 division Nigerian army issued to newsmen.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 81 Division, Brigadier General MI Abdulkadir, the GOC noted that despite their training in managing men, equipment and operational resources, personnel also need sound knowledge of personal financial management to safeguard their earnings and retirement benefits.

He stressed that financial stability contributes to family security, peace of mind, professional concentration and overall effectiveness. He added that the seminar was organised in line with the “Soldier First” culture and the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM. He urged participants to acquire practical knowledge on investment, wealth creation and retirement planning, and to apply the lessons to avoid costly financial mistakes.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chief of Staff (Training and Operations), Colonel MS Musa, described the seminar as timely in view of current economic realities and the rising cost of living. He expressed confidence that it would promote financial discipline and informed investment decisions among personnel.

The seminar featured presentations by Mr Charles Fakrohgha and Mr Segun Aremu on financial wellness, sustainable wealth creation, retirement planning and financial security.

Participants drawn from units across the 81 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR) actively engaged in the seminar, which culminated in the presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
