In a bold and strategic move to strengthen medical education, bridge critical manpower gaps, and enhance healthcare delivery in Yobe State, the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, has sponsored 13 medical lecturers for postgraduate studies in reputable universities across Malaysia and India.

This was contained in a statement signed by Yusuf AliFocal Person Digital and Strategic Communications issued to newsmen.

It said that the landmark initiative underscores Governor Buni’s unwavering commitment to human capital development, institutional capacity building, and the transformation of the health sector through sustained investment in education and professional development.

According to the statement, the beneficiaries, drawn from various medical disciplines, will pursue advanced postgraduate programmes in Medical Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Medical Anatomy, Human Anatomy, Clinical Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology, and Public Health at internationally recognized institutions including Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Integral University, Lucknow, India.

The sponsorship is designed to develop highly qualified indigenous academics for the State’s medical college, meet accreditation requirements, address identified manpower deficiencies by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and position Yobe State as a centre of excellence in medical education and healthcare services.

The beneficiaries include Dr. Aliyu Usman Muhammad, Dr. Shu’aib Musa Umar, Dr. Sani Mika’il Najume, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar, Hussaini Dauda Hussain, Dr. Usman Alhaji Mohammed, Dr. Haruna Luka, Dr. Abdulhamid Auwal Muhammad, Dr. Bilyaminu Mu’azu Zaji, Dr. Aisa Abba Gana, Dr. Saeed Usman Brah, Dr. Umar Ahmad Aliyu, and Abubakar Kyari.

The intervention is one of the most significant investments in medical manpower development undertaken by any state government in recent years and the beneficiaries are expected to return with advanced knowledge and skills that will contribute immensely to teaching, research, healthcare service delivery, and medical innovation in the state.

Speaking on the development, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje, stated that the sponsorship reflects Governor Buni’s deliberate policy of building sustainable local capacity and preparing a new generation of medical academics and professionals capable of meeting global standards.

He noted that the administration remains committed to expanding access to quality education, strengthening healthcare institutions, and creating opportunities that empower young professionals to contribute meaningfully to the development of Yobe State.

The overseas training programme adds to the long list of educational and healthcare reforms implemented by the Buni administration, further reinforcing its vision of building a healthier, more educated, and prosperous Yobe State.

With this investment, Governor Mai Mala Buni continues to demonstrate that the future of Yobe lies in the development of its people, ensuring that the state is equipped with the skilled workforce necessary to drive sustainable growth and improve the quality of life of its citizens.
