Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has commended the management of Sautus-Sunnah Comprehensive Secondary School, Katsina, for its commitment to Qur’anic education and the moral upbringing of young people.
A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammad chief press secretary to the Governor said Governor Radda made the commendation on Wednesday at the ninth graduation ceremony of 87 students who completed the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an at the school’s Tahfiz Department in Kofar Kaura, Katsina.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Radda described the successful memorisation of the Holy Qur’an by the 87 graduands as a remarkable achievement for Katsina State and Nigeria at large.
“Memorising the Holy Qur’an is a great achievement, but it is equally important for the knowledge acquired to reflect in the character, conduct and service of those who have memorised it.
“I therefore urge the graduands to live by the teachings of the Qur’an and become good examples in their communities,” he said.
Governor Radda commended the Islamic scholars, management and teachers of the school for their dedication to Qur’anic education and their contribution to the moral and spiritual development of young people in the state.
“Katsina has a long-standing tradition of Islamic scholarship and religious learning. Our scholars have played an important role in shaping the values and social life of our people, and institutions such as Sautus-Sunnah are helping to preserve and strengthen that tradition,” he said.
The Governor said his administration would continue to support education and human development, particularly institutions contributing to Qur’anic education and the moral upbringing of children.
“I always seek the guidance of Allah before taking major responsibilities, and I pray that leadership should only be given to me if it will be beneficial to the people.
“We will continue to support institutions that are contributing to the education and moral development of our children,” he said.
Governor Radda congratulated the 87 graduands and their parents, acknowledging the sacrifices made by their families throughout the memorisation journey.
He subsequently announced ₦8.7 million in support for the graduands to assist with their educational needs and activities.
The Governor also sought the prayers of the graduands, their parents and the wider Muslim community for continued peace, security and development in Katsina State.
Earlier, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi, described the graduation of the 87 Qur’an memorizers as a significant milestone for the state.
Justice Danladi said the ninth edition of the ceremony demonstrated the growing impact of Qur’anic education, describing the achievement as commendable for the graduands, their parents, the school, Katsina State and Nigeria.
He noted that producing young people who had memorised the Holy Qur’an represented an important contribution to the moral and spiritual development of society.
The Chief Judge commended Governor Radda for his administration’s initiatives in religious affairs, noting that the impact of such interventions might not always be fully appreciated by people outside the system.
According to him, the interventions were helping to strengthen religious education and deepen understanding of the importance of the Qur’an in the lives of Muslims.
Justice Danladi also acknowledged the challenge of out-of-school children in the state, saying the Radda administration had demonstrated foresight through deliberate interventions in education and human development.
He commended the school management, teachers, parents and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the Qur’anic memorisation programme.
Also speaking, the Founder of Sautus-Sunnah Comprehensive Secondary School, Sheikh Yakubu Musa, commended Governor Radda for supporting initiatives that promote Qur’anic and religious education in Katsina State.
Sheikh Yakubu praised the school management, teachers and parents for their collective efforts, disclosing that the 87 graduands completed the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an within one year.
He described the achievement as remarkable, saying the school had continued to develop to a standard comparable with leading Qur’anic memorisation institutions in the country, including Riyadul Qur’an School in Maiduguri.
The Founder stressed the need for continued support to enable the institution to expand its programmes and facilities.
On his part, Sheikh Lawal Abubakar Triumph, who delivered the sermon, emphasised the importance of reciting, understanding and living according to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.
He urged parents to introduce their children to Qur’anic education from an early age, noting that it could help shape their character, discipline and understanding of Islamic values.
Sheikh Triumph congratulated the graduands and urged them to remain committed to the teachings of the Qur’an.
He also called on them to become good ambassadors of Islam, their families, the school and the wider Muslim community.
Similarly, the Director of Sautus-Sunnah Comprehensive Secondary School, Malam Muhammad Lawal, introduced some of the graduands, who demonstrated their Qur’anic memorisation abilities before invited guests and members of the public.
Malam Muhammad Lawal appreciated the parents, teachers, Islamic scholars and other stakeholders for their contributions to the students’ success.
The school management also presented an award to Governor Radda in recognition of his contributions and support towards the development of education and religious initiatives in Katsina State.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Katsina State Executive Council, Islamic scholars, government officials, traditional and community leaders, parents, teachers, students and other members of the public.
