Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared that Kano State is fully prepared for the establishment of State Police, describing the initiative as a vital step towards strengthening internal security, enhancing community policing, and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.

The Governor made the declaration on Wednesday while inaugurating the Inter-Agencies Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking at the Ante Chamber, Government House, Kano.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Wednesday.

Governor Yusuf said the proposed State Police would complement, rather than compete with, the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that both institutions share the common responsibility of protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and promoting peaceful coexistence.

He emphasized that the two policing structures should be seen as partners working together to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve rapid response to security threats, and enhance public confidence in law enforcement.

The Governor stated that Kano State possesses the institutional capacity, human resources, and political will required to successfully establish and sustain a State Police system once the necessary constitutional and legal frameworks are in place.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting every legitimate initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and creating a safer environment where citizens can pursue their economic, educational, and social activities without fear.

Governor Yusuf noted that the inauguration of the Inter-Agencies Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking demonstrates his administration’s resolve to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking through enhanced collaboration among security agencies, law enforcement institutions, and other critical stakeholders.

He charged members of the Task Force to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, dedication, and integrity, stressing that the fight against drug abuse and trafficking requires sustained commitment, effective inter-agency cooperation, and the active support of all stakeholders.
