The Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has re-echoed the need for religious leaders to continue to preach peace and tolerance among Nigerians.
A statement signed by the Bologi Ibrahim Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said the farmer governor made the call when he received members of the Niger State Imams Forum and other Islamic Organisations in the State on a condolence visit to commiserate with him over the deaths of 37 artisanal miners in the State.
Farmer Umaru Bago who appreciated them for the visit used the avenue to appeal to the religious leaders as trusted men of God to preach peace that will ensure unity of purpose among the citizenry.
He equally advised them to stay clear of politics but rather stick to being advocates of peace and do their best in curtailing societal ills.
The farmer governor also appealed to them to be steadfast in praying for him, the State and the Country in general for prosperity to thrive.
Farmer Umaru Bago acknowledged that part of the State is faced with security challenges and called on religious leaders not to relent in seeking divine intervention at all times.
Leader of the delegation and Director General, Bureau for Religious Affairs, Malam Umar Faruk Abdullahi said the various Islamic groups came to the Government House to condole with him and the people of the State over the loss of the 37 artisanal miners and to enciurage him to remain strong in faith.
Malam Faruk who described the incident as devastating to all Nigerlites and reminded the farmer governor that Allah tests the faith of his servants in different ways, urging the governor to see the incident as a test that will come to pass.
He encouraged him not to be deterred by events unfolding in the State and hold on firmly to the remembrance of Allah who is the Guardian of all mankind.
Chief Imam of Minna, Malam Jibril Isah led prayer session for the deceased and for the peace and unity of the State and the Country as a whole .
