Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has met with the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Mukhtar Idi Maiha, in Abuja to strengthen collaboration between Gombe State and the Federal Government in driving the implementation of Nigeria’s livestock development agenda.

This was contained in a statement signed by Ismaila Uba Misilli DG press affairs Gombe state government house issued to newsmen.

Regarded as one of the leading states championing the Federal Government’s livestock reform programme, Gombe has continued to distinguish itself through bold policies and strategic investments aimed at unlocking the enormous potential of the livestock value chain.

It said in line with this vision, Governor Inuwa Yahaya recently established the Gombe State Ministry of Livestock Development, providing an institutional framework to coordinate reforms, attract investment and drive sustainable growth across the sector.

Recall that the Governor has committed 184 hectares of land to create a comprehensive livestock and agro-industrial hub for production, processing, agribusiness and commerce.

Being implemented through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), the ambitious development zone is anchored by an ultra-modern abattoir with the capacity to process 500 cattle, more than 2,000 sheep and goats, and over 10,000 poultry birds daily.

It will also accommodate an International Livestock Market, an International Grains and Animal Feed Market, a Modern Timber Market and an Inland Dry Port to facilitate seamless movement of goods within Nigeria and to international markets.

Other strategic facilities planned within the zone include a modern poultry production hub, a fully equipped veterinary hospital, a leather processing and leather products manufacturing complex, a waste-to-energy and organic fertilizer plant, as well as world-class supporting infrastructure comprising roads, electricity, water supply and other essential utilities.

Construction of the project is advancing steadily and, when completed, will position Gombe as one of Nigeria’s foremost centres for livestock production, processing, marketing and export.

The project is expected to create thousands of employment opportunities, attract local and foreign investment, strengthen livestock value chains, reduce post-harvest losses, improve market access for producers, stimulate industrial growth and significantly enhance the incomes and livelihoods of livestock farmers, pastoralists and entrepreneurs.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya has always maintained that the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of the Federal Government’s most strategic economic reforms capable of repositioning Nigeria as a major player in the global livestock industry.

He maintains Gombe State’s readiness to continue working closely with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, development partners and private investors to deliver sustainable, investment-driven solutions that will strengthen the livestock economy, create wealth and expand opportunities for citizens.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya was accompanied on the visit, by the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon.Salihu Baba Alkali.
