Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has warmly congratulated the four players representing the Katsina Football Academy in its partnership with Moonluck FA, for emerging champions of the prestigious IberCup Estoril 2026 held in Lisbon, Portugal.
A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammad, chief press secretary to the Governor, said the Governor described the remarkable achievement as a proud moment for Katsina State and Nigeria, noting that the victory reflects the immense talent, discipline, determination, and resilience of the young footballers.
The Moonluck Football Academy players lifted the coveted IberCup Estoril trophy after defeating GD AMB Football Club in the final played on 4 July 2026. Earlier in the tournament, they secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over a team from Guinea-Bissau, with Sadiq Salihu scoring the decisive goal.
Governor Radda commended the players, coaches, and management of the Katsina Football Academy and Moonluck Football Academy for their dedication and commitment, which have once again demonstrated that Katsina is blessed with talented young people capable of competing and excelling on the global stage.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, stressing that strategic investments in grassroots sports will continue to create opportunities for young people to realise their full potential and proudly represent Katsina and Nigeria in international competitions.
“This outstanding achievement is a clear demonstration that when young people are given the right support and opportunities, they can compete with the very best in the world. Your victory has brought honour to Katsina State and our country, and we are immensely proud of you,” Governor Radda said.
The Governor urged the players to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to excellence, assuring them of the continued support of the Katsina State Government in nurturing sporting talents across the state.
Governor Radda congratulated the victorious players, the coaching crew, and everyone associated with the Katsina Football Academy on the historic feat, expressing confidence that this success marks the beginning of even greater accomplishments for Katsina football on the international stage.
