* Okays 33% and 40% Fee Reductions for Private Schools
* Approves Flood Control Projects in 37 Communities, Water Supply for Rimi and Safana
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved key policies and infrastructure projects to promote youth innovation, improve education, expand infrastructure, strengthen water supply, mitigate flooding, and protect women and girls across the state.
A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammad chief press secretary to the Governor said the approvals were made on Wednesday during the 10th Regular Meeting of the Katsina State Executive Council for 2026, held at the Upper Chamber, General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB) House, Katsina, and presided over by the Governor.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, said the Council approved several memoranda aimed at promoting sustainable development and improving service delivery across Katsina State.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Council approved the establishment of an Innovation Unit at the Katsina Youth Craft Village Centre under the Ministry of Higher, Vocational and Technical Education.
He explained that the Unit will serve as a technology, creativity, innovation, and enterprise development hub aimed at nurturing young people across the state to become highly creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial.
“The Innovation Unit will provide young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities required to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of Katsina State,” he said.
Dr. Bala Salisu Zango further announced that the Council approved a downward review of the annual renewal and revalidation fees payable by private schools in the state following a request by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools.
According to him, the Annual Renewal Fee has been reduced from ₦210,000 to ₦140,000, while the Revalidation Fee has been reduced from ₦200,000 to ₦120,000.
He noted that the decision is intended to support private schools in preserving jobs, retaining qualified and competent teachers, and improving the quality and continuity of educational services across Katsina State.
“The approval demonstrates Governor Radda’s commitment to supporting private educational institutions while ensuring quality education remains accessible and sustainable throughout the state,” he stated.
The Commissioner Water resources Hon Mannir Ayuba Sullubawa, disclosed that the Council approved the award of contracts for the execution of 2026 Flood and Erosion Control Projects across 37 communities in Katsina State.
He explained that the intervention is designed to mitigate the impact of flooding in communities identified by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as vulnerable during the 2026 rainy season.
“This intervention is a proactive measure aimed at safeguarding lives, protecting communities, and reducing the devastating effects of flooding across vulnerable areas of the state,” he added.
Commissioner Works Housing transport Engr Sani Magaji ingawa, announced that the Council approved contracts for the construction of major township roads, including the 3.0-kilometre Dualisation of Mashi Township Road, 6.67 kilometres of Bakori Township Roads, and 10.7 kilometres of Malumfashi Township Roads.
He said the projects form part of Governor Radda’s commitment to expanding and improving road infrastructure across major towns and cities in Katsina State.
“The road projects will improve connectivity, facilitate economic activities, and enhance the quality of life for residents in the benefiting communities,” he explained.
The Commissioner for water resources Hon Mannir Ayuba Sullabawa, also disclosed that the Council approved the award of a contract for the supply of water to Rimi and Safana Townships as an addendum to the Zobe Phase 1B Water Supply Project.
According to him, the project is intended to ensure the provision and equitable distribution of potable water to the affected communities.
“Access to clean and safe water remains a priority of this administration, and this approval represents another significant step towards meeting the water needs of our growing communities,” he noted.
Commissioner women’s affairs Hajiya aisha aminu malunfashi, revealed that the State Executive Council received an advocacy delegation from the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum on strengthening the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Katsina State.
She said the high-level engagement was led by the First Lady of Katsina State, Hajiya Zulaihatu Dikko Radda, alongside officials of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Ford Foundation.
According to her, Governor Radda signed a communiqué reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the Katsina State Government to building a safer, more inclusive, and equitable society where women and girls can live free from violence, intimidation, abuse, and discrimination.
“The Governor reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to continue implementing policies and programmes that protect the rights and dignity of women and girls while strengthening institutional mechanisms for preventing Gender-Based Violence across Katsina State,” he stated.
The Council’s decisions reflect Governor Radda’s commitment to youth development, education, infrastructure, water security, and building a more prosperous Katsina State.
