The Katsina State Government has disbursed N328,123,392.35 for Phase I of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme, supporting 650 medical students across 33 accredited universities.
Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda approved the initiative, which reaffirms the government’s commitment to strengthening human capital development in the health sector.
Dr. Muhammad Nazir Shehu, General Manager of Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (KTHSMB) confirmed the disbursement in a statement signed by the Board Secretary, Abu Usman.
According to the Chairman, the allowance covers medical students enrolled across universities within and outside Nigeria. The scheme is designed to alleviate financial constraints faced by students during their academic and professional training.
“This is a strategic investment by the State Government to build a competent, resilient, and service-oriented healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation,” Dr. Shehu stated.
The Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board implemented the initiative, coordinating the disbursement to eligible beneficiaries. The board ensures proper management and transparent distribution of government support.
The General Manager noted that the allowance scheme enables students to focus effectively on their studies without financial worry.
The initiative represents the government’s deliberate investment in healthcare workforce development. By supporting medical students, the state ensures a pipeline of qualified healthcare professionals.
Dr. Shehu emphasized that the scheme targets building professionals capable of addressing Katsina State’s evolving health challenges.

Phase I of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme has been successfully completed. The disbursement marks the first phase of the government’s planned support for medical students across the state.
