Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has restated his administration’s commitment to sustaining recent gains in the fight against insecurity, particularly in areas previously affected by banditry.
A statement signed by Ibrahim kaula Mohammad chief press secretary to the Governor said Gov Radda made this known today at the Government House, Katsina, while receiving the newly posted Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 14, Bello Shehu, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, and his successor, CP Umar Fagge.
CP Umar Fagge brings over 30 years of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force, with extensive experience in operations, investigations, and administration across several states, including Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, and Lagos.
He has served in key command positions across various divisions and specialised units, and also held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration.
He later served as Deputy Commandant at the Police College, Ikeja, where he contributed significantly to the training and capacity development of junior officers.
CP Fagge has also attended several advanced professional courses, including the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos.
Governor Radda commended the Nigeria Police Force for its continued support to the state and congratulated the outgoing Commissioner on his elevation to Assistant Inspector General of Police, describing it as well deserved.
The Governor noted that the security situation in Katsina has improved significantly, with several frontline local government areas now experiencing relative peace.
He explained that areas previously regarded as high-risk are now witnessing growing stability, attributing the progress to strong collaboration among security agencies and community structures.
“We have seen improved stability in many areas that were once highly volatile. Our security agencies, working with community structures, have made remarkable progress in restoring peace,” he said.
Governor Radda emphasized the need for continued synergy among all security formations, including the Police, Military, Civil Defence, and community-based initiatives, in addressing emerging security threats.
He also noted that the establishment of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps has strengthened intelligence gathering and improved rapid response at the community level.
“Security is a collective responsibility. The Community Watch Corps has made a significant difference because they understand the terrain and provide timely intelligence,” he added.
The Governor assured the new Commissioner of Police of the state government’s continued collaboration and logistical support to enhance operational effectiveness across Katsina State.
In his remarks, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 14, Bello Shehu, commended Governor Radda’s leadership and security reforms, describing them as key to the progress recorded in the state.
The outgoing Commissioner of Police expressed appreciation for the support received during his tenure and expressed confidence in the ability of his successor to build on the achievements recorded.
CP Umar Fagge, the new Commissioner of Police, pledged to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders and prioritize intelligence-led policing, proactive operations, and community engagement to further reduce crime in the state.
He assured that the Command under his leadership would remain committed to sustaining peace, stability, and the protection of lives and property across Katsina State.
CP Umar Fagge is expected to strengthen policing structures in the state and enhance inter-agency collaboration toward sustained peace and security.
