Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to monitor the distribution of subsidised fertilizer across the state to ensure transparency and accountability.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Thursday.

The Governor gave the directive during the flag-off of the distribution of 150 truckloads of subsidised fertilizer to farmers across the 44 local government areas of the state.

Governor Yusuf said the involvement of the anti-graft agencies was intended to guarantee that the fertilizer reaches genuine farmers and to eliminate diversion, hoarding and other sharp practices.

He urged the 44 local government chairmen to conduct the exercise with honesty, fairness and accountability, noting that the intervention is aimed at reducing the cost of farming, increasing agricultural productivity and strengthening food security.

The Governor warned that anyone found diverting the fertilizer or frustrating the programme would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, describing agriculture as a key driver of Kano State’s economy.
