Political associates of the late first civilian Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu, have endorsed Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna for the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.
The grand endorsement brought together prominent members of the late governor’s political family, including former members of the State Executive Council, former ANPP executives, former councillors, former members of the Gombe State House of Assembly and House of Representatives, former political appointees and former party chairmen from local government areas across the state.
A statement signed by Ibrahim Sani Shawai,Spokesman to Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna said the gathering commenced with a one-minute silence in honour of the late Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu, whose contributions as the first civilian Governor of Gombe State and political leader were remembered by the participants.
Speaking at the event, former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Daudu Abdussalam; former ANPP Chairman, Alhaji Abba Sarkin Dabe; and former Deputy Governor and Senator, Joshua Lidani, reflected on their political journey with the late governor and expressed their support for Gwamna’s governorship aspiration.
In his remarks, Dr Jamil Gwamna expressed profound appreciation to members of the Hashidu’s political family, particularly former cabinet members, party leaders, political appointees and other stakeholders, describing the endorsement as a great honour.
He recalled the important role the late Governor Hashidu played in his emergence in public service and politics, noting that it was Hashidu who appointed him Chairman of the Gombe State Water Board.
“Alhaji Hashidu brought me into the political limelight when he appointed me Chairman of the Gombe State Water Board. I remain grateful for the opportunity and the confidence he reposed in me,” Gwamna said.
He described his relationship with the Hashidu political family as one built over the years on mentorship, shared history, friendship and commitment to the development of Gombe State.
Gwamna urged the political leaders and stakeholders to translate their endorsement into grassroots mobilisation across the state.
“I urge you all to stand up and mobilise for our victory. We must take our message to the people and work together towards achieving our collective aspiration,” he said.
The endorsement represents another significant engagement between Gwamna and political stakeholders across Gombe State as consultations and mobilisation continue ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
