In Kaduna State,the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Department of Zaria Local Government has officially flagged off its 2026 Chlorination Campaign as part of ongoing efforts to ensure access to safe drinking water and prevent waterborne diseases across the local government area.
A statement signed by Abdullahi Abubakar Lawal SA New Media to the chairman said the campaign was formally launched by the Director of the WASH Department, Malam Buhari Junaidu, who reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to safeguarding public health through improved water quality and sanitation services.
During the flag-off ceremony, the Assistant Deputy Director of Water Quality, Malam Mohammed Mohammed, distributed chlorine supplies to ward officers from Tudun Wada, Limancin Kona, Kwarbai B, Wucicciri, and Dutsen Abba for onward distribution and implementation within their respective communities.
The chlorine, purchased by Zaria Local Government, will be used to disinfect both contaminated and non-contaminated wells, ensuring that residents have access to clean and safe water for domestic use.
The WASH Department announced that the chlorination exercise will commence across six political wards:
1. Kwarbai A
2. Tudun Wada
3. Kaura
4. Wucicciri
5. Dutsen Abba
6. Limancin Kona
Residents of the benefiting communities are encouraged to cooperate with WASH officials during the exercise, as the initiative is aimed at reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases and promoting healthier communities.
