The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt Hon Abbas Tajudeen Ph.D GCON Iyan Zazzau, today declared open the public hearing on a number of critical defence and security bills aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s military institutions, improving the welfare of veterans, promoting inclusivity within the armed forces, and modernising the nation’s legal framework to address emerging security threats.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker emphasized that Nigeria’s evolving security landscape requires bold thinking, legislative innovation, and evidence-based solutions capable of addressing both present and future challenges.
He noted that the public hearing provides an important platform for stakeholders to contribute their expertise, perspectives, and recommendations toward the development of effective and responsive security legislation.
The Speaker further stated that the exercise goes beyond lawmaking, describing it as part of a broader national commitment to building a safer, stronger, and more resilient Nigeria.
He called on all participants to engage constructively throughout the process, stressing that every contribution has the potential to shape policies that will strengthen national security and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
The public hearing brought together lawmakers, security experts, military representatives, civil society organisations, veterans’ groups, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on the proposed legislation and provide inputs for its improvement.
