True leadership is reflected in character, conduct and respect for others. Sometimes, a simple gesture reveals these qualities more clearly than a lengthy speech.

During a condolence visit to His Royal Highness, the Mai Kaltungo, over the passing of his wife, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, Sardaunan Gombe, demonstrated humility, civility and respect for the traditional authority.
While others chose to sit on chairs uninvited, Dr.Jamil Gwamna sat on the floor, respecting the palace protocol on seating arrangements. As someone who holds a traditional title as Sardaunan- Gombe, he understands the customs, traditions and responsibilities that accompany that honour.
This was a moment to offer sympathy, comfort and respect to a grieving royal father. Dr.Jamil’s conduct reflected an understanding of the solemnity of the occasion and the dignity of the institution.
A leader who is secure in himself understands that honouring others takes nothing away from him. Titles and accomplishments should deepen humility and strengthen respect for the people and institutions we seek to serve.
Gombe deserves a leader who is humble and respects its people and honours its traditional institutions. Dr Jamil’s conduct demonstrated these virtues. Sardaunan Gombe is a true son of the soil.
