The Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, today, Thursday, 1st October 2026, represented his principal and boss, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, at a special humanitarian outreach organised to mark the Speaker’s 61st birthday with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kaduna State.
A statement signed by Galadima Ishaq Chief Press Secretary, Office of the Executive Chairman, Zaria Local Government Council said the Speaker chose to commemorate his birthday by identifying with displaced families, particularly residents of the Mararraban Rido, Barakallahu and Malalin Gabas IDP camps.
As part of the outreach, 600 bags of rice, 300 bags of fertilizer, 100 branded school bags, 1,000 exercise books, 300 Shaddah clothing materials and 300 Ankara wrappers were distributed to beneficiaries.
Beyond the material assistance, the outreach carried a message of hope and encouragement. The Speaker acknowledged the resilience of displaced families and particularly encouraged the children not to allow their present circumstances to limit their dreams, stressing the importance of education, aspiration and a better future.
Chairman Jaga also expressed appreciation to the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, for his support and commitment to the welfare of displaced persons.
He equally appreciated MILNAPATH INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION for providing free medical check-ups during the outreach, describing the gesture as a meaningful contribution towards the health and wellbeing of vulnerable members of the communities.
Earlier in the day, Chairman Jaga visited the family of Danja to condole with them over the passing of Aisha Aminu Danja. He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings, grant her eternal rest and give the family the strength and patience to bear the loss.
Upon returning to the office, the Chairman received members of the Fityanul Islam Women’s Wing, alongside their ward leadership, led by the Local Government Ameera.
The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss matters of community development and appreciated the women for their visit, commitment and continued efforts towards strengthening the community.

Chairman Jaga also received members of the Zaria Local Government Council Standing Committee on Qur’anic Recitation Competition, who presented two outstanding sons and daughters of Zaria for their remarkable achievement in Qur’anic scholarship.
Auwal Armaya’u and Sumayyah Shu’aibu Salihu Zaria emerged as the overall winners of the Musabaqa held in Kano State, competing in the memorisation of 60 Hizb and Qira’at.
The Chairman congratulated the two winners, their parents, teachers and everyone who contributed to their success, describing their achievement as a source of pride to Zaria and an inspiration to other young people.
In recognition of outstanding Qur’anic excellence, Chairman Jaga pledged to sponsor Umar Bello Kofa, winner of the previous Musabaqah competition, to perform Umrah.
He further pledged to sponsor Auwal Armaya’u to perform Umrah should he emerge as the winner of the forthcoming interstate competition.
He prayed that Almighty Allah continues to increase them in knowledge, strengthen their faith and make them beneficial to Zaria, Kaduna State and the wider Ummah.
The Chairman rounded off the day by receiving members of Kungiyar ’Yan Nono, who honoured him with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his service and commitment.

He expressed sincere appreciation for the honour, noting that such recognition serves as encouragement to continue working with dedication for the people.
From supporting displaced families and promoting the wellbeing of vulnerable people, to celebrating Qur’anic excellence and engaging with community organisations, the day reflected Chairman Jaga’s continued commitment to service, compassion and community development.
