The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success in its sustained efforts to combat animal theft and other criminal activities across the state, with the arrest of eleven (11) suspected cattle rustlers during coordinated operations conducted in Gwiwa, Hadejia, Gwaram, and Taura Local Government Areas.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer SP Lawan Shiisu Adam,said the operations, which followed prompt responses to credible intelligence and distress reports, were carried out by police operatives in collaboration with a vigilante group.
It said the swift intervention led to the arrest of the suspects before they could successfully dispose of the stolen animals.
The statement said during the operations, a total of twenty-seven (27) sheep, ten (10) goats, and three (3) cows, reasonably suspected to have been stolen, were recovered. Additionally, two operational motor vehicles allegedly used by the suspects in carrying out their criminal activities were intercepted and taken into police custody as exhibits.
The suspects are as follows: Muhammad Musa ‘m’ age 32yrs of Maradi, Niger Republic; Musa Hassan ‘m’ age 35yrs of Maradi, Niger Republic; Auwalu Musa ‘m’ age 30yrs of Zangon Maje, Settlement Camp; Yahaya Abubakar ‘m’ age 30yrs of Kwalam town; Abdullahi Amadu ‘m’ age 30yrs of Budunma Settlement Camp; Yahaya Musa ‘m’, age 30 yrs, of Budunma Settlement Camp; Yasir Muda ‘m’ of Kangire village, Birnin Kudu LGA; Salisu Aliyu ‘m’ age 28yrs of Yayari Quarters, Hadejia LGA; Sama’ila Amadu ‘m’ age 35yrs of Dallah Quarters, Hadejia LGA; Ibrahim Maikudi ‘m’ age 18yrs of Kundu Waje Settlement Camp, Gwaram LGA; and Bello Muhammad ‘m’ age 25yrs of Kundu Waje Settlement Camp.
Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicates. Upon the conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, commended the gallantry, professionalism, and prompt response of the operatives, describing the feat as another testament to the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the State. He reiterated that the Command will continue to intensify intelligence-led policing, surveillance, and coordinated operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in cattle rustling and other violent crimes.
The CP further warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law, stressing that Jigawa State remains hostile to criminals and criminality.
