The Kano State Government has received a national healthcare award in recognition of its performance and commitment to transforming the health sector.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health.

The Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, presented the award to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The award was received by the commissioner on behalf of the state government at a National Health Fellows event.

According to the commissioner, the recognition was for the progress recorded in the state’s healthcare system through the leadership and investments of the present administration.

While presenting the award, Dr Yusuf said it belonged to the people of Kano State and reflected the governor’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, strengthening primary healthcare services, expanding access to quality medical care and implementing policies that had impacted the lives of residents.

The commissioner commended Governor Yusuf for making the health sector one of the administration’s priorities, noting that the government’s investment in health infrastructure, human resource development, disease control, maternal and child health, emergency medical services and other interventions had earned Kano national recognition.

Receiving the award, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the organisers and dedicated it to the healthcare workforce, development partners and the people of Kano State.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining ongoing reforms and ensuring that every citizen had access to affordable, quality and equitable healthcare services.

The governor further assured residents that his administration would continue to support initiatives that strengthen the health system and improve health outcomes across the state.

The presentation of the award marks another milestone in Kano State’s efforts to build a resilient and people-centred healthcare system and reaffirms its position as one of Nigeria’s leading states in health sector development.
