    MAJOR GENERAL AH AHMED URGES CONTINUED DISCIPLINE AS NEW COMMANDANT TAKES OVER

    The outgoing 18th Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General Abubakar Ahmed has urged personnel of the School to sustain discipline, professionalism and support for the institution as Major General Sunday Makolo assumes office as the 19th Commandant.

    A statement signed by Major A A Adekunle Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations Headquarters Nigerian Army Armoured Corps said Major General Ahmed gave the charge on Friday, 7 August, 2026 during the Handing and Taking over ceremony at the Nigerian Army Armour School, Bauchi. Major General Abubakar attributed the achievements recorded during his tenure to the collective efforts, dedication and cooperation of officers and soldiers of the School.

    Commending the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, Chief Instructors, Staff Officers, Regimental Sergeant Major and other personnel, the Commandant said the successes recorded were not the work of individual but the product of teamwork. He therefore called on personnel to accord the new Commandant the same level of loyalty and cooperation that supported the progress of the School under his leadership.

    Describing his successor as a seasoned senior officer with strong administrative experience, Major General Ahmed expressed confidence in Major General Makolo’s capacity to provide effective leadership and consolidate on existing gains.

    He also highlighted the ongoing expansion and transformation within the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, including the establishment of additional formations and units. According to him, these developments will demand higher levels of professional output, discipline and commitment from personnel.

    Major General Ahmed appreciated all personnel for their support throughout his tenure and wished them continued success under the new leadership. He further urged them to maintain and improve on the standards of discipline and professionalism required to meet the Nigerian Army’s evolving operational and training demands.

    On Thursday, 6 August 2026, the outgoing and incoming Commandants paid a courtesy visit to the Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar. During the visit, Major General Ahmed, thanked the Commander for his fatherly support and kind interventions in the affairs of the School noting that it had been a privilege to work with him and that his leadership had brought tremendous opportunities to both the Corps and the Nigerian Army Armour School. He expressed the appreciation on behalf of the entire School. In his response, the Commander informed them that the Corps and the Nigerian Army are undergoing expansion with the process of forming additional Battalions. He also congratulated the new Commandant, Major General Sunday Makolo, on his appointment.

    The ceremony was attended by staff officers, instructors and civilian staff of the School.
