The Management of the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital,MA UTH.has formally discharged separated conjoined twins amid admiration of the audience who graced the brief ceremony at the hospital on Saturday in Yola.Adamawa state.

The successful surgical separation of the conjoined twins conducted in the hospital by a team headed by renowned surgeon and former medical Director of the facility when it was Federal Medical Centre, Professor Auwal Abubakar Muhammad was celebrated as one of the hospital’s most remarkable medical achievements.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ali Danburam, former Medical Director of MAUTH and the Ptil Madagali, described the event as far beyond a routine hospital gathering, saying it symbolized the convergence of medicine, humanity and faith.

‎Danburam congratulated the parents of the twins and the surgical team for the successful separation of the twins saying that the feat represented one of the most delicate frontiers in pediatric surgery, requiring extraordinary coordination, precision and endurance from a highly trained multidisciplinary team.

‎Danburam maintained that the result deficits the solid foundations laid by the institution’s early leadership, noting that the hospital’s culture of excellence, careful recruitment and continuous staff training created the environment for such a feat.

‎“What we celebrate today did not emerge by chance,” Danburam stated, recalling the sacrifices of MAUTH’s founding years and emphasizing that institutional growth was built on foresight, discipline and commitment to quality healthcare.

‎Addressing the elated audience, the lead surgeon,Professor Auwal Muhammad Abubakar revealed that the twins had been admitted for more than five months under complete financial exemption, with MAUTH covering all medical expenses.

He explained that from admission through radiological assessment, diagnosis, surgery and recovery, multiple departments worked in seamless coordination.

‎He praised the hospital’s nursing staff, radiology department, patient relations services and other specialists for their contributions, stressing that conjoined twin surgeries vary significantly in complexity depending on the organs shared.‎

Abubakar highlighted that some of the cases happened with different issues saying some twins shared parts jointly like breastbone, liver, hearts, brains or even kidneys which makes it delicate and complicated but must be given all the professional attention it deserves for results like the one at hand.

Abubakar urged the federal government to invest heavily in healthcare delivery by provision and procurement of advanced equipment and budgetary allocations so as to achieve the desired goals of making its citizens healthy.

In his remarks,Chief Medical Director of MAUTH, Professor Adamu Bakari Girei, described the discharge ceremony as a celebration of sacrifice, teamwork and institutional excellence.

‎Girei reaffirmed MAUTH’s vision of building a healthcare system where patients can access comprehensive specialist care locally without needing to travel elsewhere out of necessity

Responding on behalf of the family of the separated conjoined twins, Mallam Jibrin Yusuf expressed gratitude to God and the MAUTH management for the show of love and care to his grandchildren and the family.

Checks by this reporter revealed that the MAUTH has conducted three successful conjoined twins separation surgical operations while the surgeon, Professor Auwal Muhammad Abubakar had this one as the sixth in the series to his credit.
