Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s vision of strengthening a public service that is efficient, professional, and responsive to the needs of the people.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the Governor gave the assurance while addressing workers at the May Day Celebration held at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that his administration remains dedicated to the workforce. “We will continue to prioritize policies that promote fairness, reward diligence, and create a conducive working environment for civil servants,” he stated.

He noted that May Day is not only a celebration of the resilience, dedication, and sacrifices of workers but also a reminder that the workforce remains the “engine room of governance and development.”

He said despite the fact that theme of this year’s celebration, “Insecurity and Poverty: The Bane of Decent Work,” which speaks directly to the realities, present administration is expanding social interventions to reduce the cost of living, enhancing security across communities and economic corridors.

Governor Yusuf shared significant progress regarding the welfare of retirees, noting over N48 billion in inherited pension and gratuity backlogs have almost been fully cleared.

He assured that the remaining N16 billion balance is scheduled to be settled before the expiration of his administration’s first tenure.

The Governor also revealed that civil servants have benefited from various capacity-building programmes both within and outside the state. Additionally, he noted that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) received government support to organize similar training for its members.

To enhance service delivery, the Governor confirmed that thousands of new workers have been employed to fill vacancies and bolster the state’s human resources. He urged civil servants to reciprocate these efforts with renewed dedication, integrity, and commitment to duty.

“Let us work together to build a state where excellence in service delivery becomes the norm, and where every worker takes pride in contributing to the progress of Kano,” the Governor concluded.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Chapter, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, expressed appreciation on behalf of the civil servants for the Governor’s efforts in restoring worker confidence. Comrade Inuwa reiterated the 100 percent support of the workforce for the present administration, citing its worker-friendly policies.
