    As part of the line-up of activities to commemorate the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026, marking the 163rd anniversary of the Nigerian Army, the Headquarters 8 Division has held a Special Juma’at Prayer. The solemn event took place on Friday 26 June at the 8 Division Central Mosque, Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto

    Delivering the goodwill message of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna represented by the Chief of Staff Headquarters 8 Division Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari stated that the prayer session provided a vital opportunity to thank Almighty Allah for His continuous mercies and guidance. He noted that the occasion was also a moment to reflect on the Army’s monumental accomplishments, honor its fallen heroes and renew the troops’ commitment to national service.

    Highlighting the theme for NADCEL 2026, *“Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army,”* the GOC described it as a clarion call for reflection, renewal, and rededication to the core values of the institution. He commended officers and soldiers for their unwavering sacrifices and professionalism, emphasizing that throughout its 163-year history, the Nigerian Army has remained a steadfast symbol of patriotism, resilience, and commitment to Nigeria’s sovereignty.

    The GOD Further reiterated the COAS’s dedication to building a professional, combat-ready, an welfare-driven force, anchored on the “Soldier First” philosophy.

    Maj Gen Koughna used the occasion to express glowing tributes to the gallant officers and soldiers of the Division who have paid the supreme price in the defense of the nation.

    The Special Juma’at Prayer was led by the Acting Deputy Director, 8 Division Islamic Affairs and Chief Imam, Lieutenant Colonel Tanimu Hamisu.He offered fervent prayers for the peace, security, and progress of Nigeria, its leadership, members of the Armed Forces, and all personnel currently deployed across various operational theatres.

    The event was well-attended by formation commanders, staff officers, soldiers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) and the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), as well as other distinguished guests and the Muslim faithful.
