Graduating students of the Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS) have been charged to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties as they return to their respective units and formations.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Shittu acting deputy director army public relations headquarters Nigerian army signals said the charge was given by the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), Colonel Victor Golo (rtd), during the graduation ceremony of the First Quarter 2026 Courses held at NAIS, Tego Barracks, Apapa, Lagos, on 17 April 2026.
The SGOH who was also a former Commandant of NAIS, urged the graduands to remain disciplined, committed, and professional in the conduct of intelligence duties, stressing that the effectiveness of military operations depends largely on the quality and reliability of intelligence support provided to commanders.
While delivering his welcome address, the Commandant NAIS, Brigadier General David Umaru, expressed appreciation to the SGOH for honouring the occasion, describing him as a seasoned senior officer whose professional standards and leadership continue to inspire personnel of the Corps. He noted that the graduation ceremony marked not only the successful completion of rigorous training but also the beginning of greater responsibilities for the students.
Brigadier General Umaru emphasised that the evolving security environment demands a dynamic approach to intelligence training, adding that NAIS remains committed to developing personnel who are capable of critical thinking, sound analysis, and effective decision-making in complex operational environments. He highlighted the School’s deliberate focus on strengthening key areas of the curriculum, particularly countering Improvised Explosive Device networks and financial analysis, which are critical to dismantling threat structures.
The Commandant emphasised that analysing threat networks, particularly through financial tracking, is key to understanding adversaries and identifying vulnerabilities. He noted that the 14-week training combined theory and practical exercises, including Exercises DESERT CHASE and SPIDER WEB. He urged graduands to go beyond routine reporting by providing actionable intelligence, adding that their true competence will be measured by their performance in the field.
Brigadier General Umaru also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his continued support to the School, particularly the ongoing efforts to relocate NAIS to its permanent site at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja. He equally commended the Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), Major General Ezra Hedima, for his guidance and support towards enhancing intelligence training and institutional development.
In his course overview, the Acting Deputy Commandant NAIS, Lieutenant Colonel Oluwafemi Ogunbunmi, stated that students underwent intensive 14-week training comprising lectures, practical exercises, and study tours, covering several intelligence courses to enhance their operational capabilities. He reaffirmed the School’s commitment to developing skilled intelligence personnel through training in collection, analysis, and dissemination, as well as capacity building and research on emerging threats.
The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates to successful participants, signifying the completion of their training and readiness for operational deployment.
