As activities marking Police Day Kicks Off in the state.

The newly posted Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, has officially assumed duty with a strong pledge to tackle insecurity and rebuild public trust, as the state marks the commencement of the 2026 National Police Day celebration.

Addressing journalists and stakeholders at a press briefing today, CP AM Bello expressed gratitude for his appointment as the 35th indigenous Commissioner of Police in the state, describing the role as both an honour and a responsibility. He thanked the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwanu Disu, for the confidence reposed in him to lead security efforts in one of the most troubled states in Nigeria.

The Commissioner announced that the National Police Day celebration would run from March 30 to April 7, 2026. He explained that the event is aimed at strengthening collaboration between the police and the public, promoting trust, and encouraging adherence to the rule of law. He called on community leaders, stakeholders, and residents to actively participate in the scheduled activities, emphasizing that effective policing requires collective effort.

Highlighting the security situation in the state, CP Bello acknowledged Zamfara’s strategic importance to national stability, noting that its persistent security challenges particularly armed banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on vulnerable communities have had far-reaching consequences since 2015. These issues, he said, have not only led to loss of lives and widespread abductions but have also disrupted education and agricultural activities, which remain the backbone of the state’s economy.

Outlining his vision, the Commissioner pledged to reinvigorate the state’s security architecture and intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks. He stressed that his leadership would focus on ensuring peace, justice, and security for all residents, while promoting fairness, inclusivity, and professionalism in policing.

“Our mission is to uphold the rule of law with integrity and to work closely with communities and stakeholders to create a safer environment,” he said. “Every citizen, regardless of background, must be treated with dignity and respect.”

CP Bello further emphasized the importance of community policing, noting that modern law enforcement must go beyond enforcement to become more people-centered. He reiterated plans to strengthen partnerships, improve accountability, and adopt innovative strategies, including digital transformation and evidence-based operations.

While reaffirming support for the vision of the Inspector General, the Commissioner stated that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to evolve into a more transparent, people-oriented institution.

He therefore called for  unity and cooperation between law enforcement and citizens, expressing optimism that collective action would lead to improved security and lasting peacei n Zamfara State
