The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the British High Commission, successfully concluded a two-week intensive training program for fifty-five (55) personnel drawn from the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

A statement signed by the force public relations officer CSP Aniete Okokon Edem Iniedu Force headquarters Abuja said the graduation ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Colonel Richard Hoyobe, representing the British High Commission and serving as Deputy Head of the British Defence Staff West Africa; AIG Akoh Gabriel, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Counter-Terrorism Unit; and DCP Maina Mamman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, CTU.

The comprehensive program certified participating officers in advanced Intelligence and Close Quarter Battle (CQB) courses, focusing on tactical operational planning and practical room clearance techniques, all vital components of counter-terrorism operations.

Representing the Inspector-General of Police, AIG Akoh Gabriel expressed deep gratitude to the British High Commission for its unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s national security framework, noting that such partnerships build a stronger defense against shared global threats. He highlighted the ongoing benefits of this collaboration, pointing out that over one hundred and forty (140) CTU operatives have benefited from British-coordinated training programs in recent months, including thirty (30) personnel trained in Côte d’Ivoire and one hundred and ten (110) trained locally in intelligence and tactical combat skills.

Charging the graduates to put their newly acquired skills to practical use, AIG Gabriel urged them to lead the charge against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats while strictly upholding professionalism and respect for human rights. He also commended the Inspector-General of Police for his visionary leadership and commitment to personnel development, which made the exercise possible. The ceremony concluded with the official presentation of certificates, designating the participants as certified Intelligence Analysts and Tactical Close Quarter Combatants.

The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to continuously upgrading the capacity of its personnel to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all citizens.
