    NIGERIA POLICE FORCE PARTICIPATES IN SOUTH-EAST REGIONAL SECURITY SUMMIT 2026, ADVOCATES UNITED FRONT AGAINST INSECURITY

    The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, was on Thursday, 30th July 2026, represented at the South-East Regional Security Summit, 2026, by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Police Command Headquarters, Umuahia, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, PhD, LLB, psc (+), .

    A statement signed by CSP Ani Iniedu ,Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters Abuja said the AIG was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, MSPSP, who represented the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, Anambra State.

    The summit, held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Umuahia, Abia State, was organised by the Federal Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South East), under the theme: “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability.”

    Representing the Inspector-General of Police, AIG Nwonyi featured among a distinguished panel of speakers who examined the prevailing security challenges confronting the South-East and proffered practical, intelligence-driven and sustainable solutions towards the restoration of lasting peace and stability in the region. During the high-level panel discussion, the AIG advocated enhanced inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing, community-based policing, strategic stakeholder engagement and sustained public support as critical imperatives for addressing insecurity in the region. In recognition of his contribution to the summit and his commitment to national security, AIG Nwonyi was presented with an award by the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), OFR.

    The summit was declared open by the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and was attended by an array of eminent personalities, including the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), OFR; the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; representatives of the Governors of the South-East States; the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; heads of security and law enforcement agencies; senior military and police officers; traditional rulers; religious leaders; and other critical stakeholders.

    The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to working in synergy with sister security agencies, governments at all levels and community stakeholders in advancing sustainable peace, security and regional stability across the South-East.
