The Nigerian Air Force has completed the Factory Acceptance Test for the first batch of three M-346 Fighter Attack aircraft in Italy.
The exercise, conducted by a joint team from the Nigerian Air Force and the Ministry of Defence at the Leonardo Aircraft Division facility in Venegono, marks the completion of all contractual and technical requirements ahead of the aircraft’s delivery to Nigeria.
The Air Force says the three aircraft, designated NAF Zero One, NAF Zero Two and NAF Zero Three, have met the required technical and airworthiness standards and have been certified for delivery.
The new platforms are expected to strengthen the operational capability of the Service as part of its ongoing fleet modernization programme.
During the visit, the Nigerian delegation also held discussions with officials of Leonardo Aircraft Division on pilot and maintenance training, logistics support and long-term fleet sustainment.
The team inspected flight simulation and virtual reality training facilities designed to prepare pilots and technical personnel for the effective operation and maintenance of the aircraft.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, says the M-346 Fighter Attack aircraft will improve the Nigerian Air Force’s capacity to train combat-ready pilots while enhancing its ability to undertake precision strike, close air support, air interdiction and other air combat operations to address the country’s security challenges.
The Nigerian Air Force says the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Test reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the operational capability of the Armed Forces through the acquisition of modern military platforms.
It adds that the aircraft will further enhance the Air Force’s ability to support joint military operations and safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
