………The new facility will handle major overhaul, training to improve availability of Armoured Vehicles, Tanks and Artillery pieces for the Nigerian Army
The Nigerian Army and China North Industries Corporation, (NORINCO) have officially kickstarted operations at the Nigerian Army and NORINCO Comprehensive Service Centre located in Obienu Barracks, Bauchi.

Speaking on Thursday, 27 August 2026, the Managing Director, Nigerian Army Comprehensive Service Centre, Major General Chima Ekeator, said the centre was established to carry out comprehensive maintenance from level 2 to level 4 on equipment supplied by NORINCO. This includes major overhaul, replacement of major assemblies, retrofitting and repairs.
He explained that the facility will focus on Tanks, Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), Artillery Weapons and other equipment. The Centre has a mandate to keep serviceable AFVs produced by NORINCO for the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps, Nigerian Army Armoured Corps and the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery.
Major General Ekeator stressed the need for a sustainable joint partnership between the Nigerian Army and NORINCO. He added that the centre will also provide training to Nigerian Army personnel on equipment support activities, a move expected to improve equipment availability for the Nigerian Army in the Theatres of Operations.
Earlier, the Commandant, Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General Sunday Makolo received the Centre Managing Director, Major General Ekeator and the Deputy General Manager of NORINCO Africa Department, Mr Tian Bei in his office as they paid a courtesy call.
In attendance at the event were members of the NORINCO team, staff officers from Headquarters Nigerian Army Armoured Corps (NAAC), Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS) and the Nigerian Army Special Vehicle Plant (NASVP).
Highlights of the event included tour of the Comprehensive Service Centre, press briefing, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
