The Nigerian Army School of Legal Services (NASLS) held its 2026 Training workshop at Lieutenant General Abdulraham Damabazu Auditorium Basawa Zaria, Kaduna State.
The 2 day training workshop took place from 10 – 11 August 2026, with the theme: Combating Insecurity in Nigeria: “The Role of Law in Ensuring Operational Efficiency”, was attended by officers and soldiers of the Directorate of Legal Services (Army) to equip and enhance their knowledge on military operations and support national security.

Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour , the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu Nigerian Army Medal, represented by the Commandant Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) Major General Muhammadu Nura Inuwa stated that the annual workshop is an important platform for strengthening professional competence, fostering intellectual engagement and enhancing the capacity of legal practitioners and military personnel to address the increasingly complex legal dimensions of contemporary military operations. He further charged the officers and soldiers to carry out their duties with the highest standards of professionalism, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
Delivering his welcome address, the Director, Directorate of Legal Services (Army), Colonel Samson Oluwasenu Okebukola said the theme of the training workshop is timely and germane given the complex, multi-dimensional security threat across the country and that the role of the law is critical to mission success of any kinetic and non-kinetic operations. He also appreciated the COAS for giving the Directorate all the necessary support for creating a veritable platform where the knowledge and understanding of Legal officers and soldiers will be sharpened on law related matters during operations.
Also making his remarks, the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Legal Services, Colonel Daniel Ehicheoya urged all participants to engage fully, share knowledge and return to their various units and formations well equipped and ready to carry out their task professionally.
The training workshop featured lectures on “The Constitutional and Statutory Framework for the Conduct of Military Operations” delivered by Professor Abubakar Muhammad Madaki, “The place of International Humanitarian Law and Human Right Compliance in Military Operations” delivered by Professor Ahmad Jibrin Suleiman, “Rules of Engagement as Legal Safeguards in Military Operations” delivered by Colonel Micheal Ede Elom(Rtd) and “Emerging Digital and Informational Legal Threats to the Conduct of Military Operations” delivered by Honourable Justice Yakubu Badamasi.
Highlight of the event was presentation of certificate of participation and presentation of souvenirs as well as group photographs.
