Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has directed members of the Tractor Association in Birnin Kebbi to continue occupying their business premises and go about their lawful businesses without fear of eviction.

The Governor also instructed the association to disregard a purported eviction notice circulating on social media, stressing that the directive did not emanate from the Kebbi State Government or any authorized government agency.

The clarification followed the circulation of a viral social media report alleging that members of the association had been ordered to vacate their business location in the state capital.

Governor Idris immediately deployed the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Alhaji Hayatuddeen Bawa Jega and Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi as well as the General Manager State Urban Development Authority (KUDA) to the site.

Addressing members of the association, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development said he became aware of the report through Facebook and promptly contacted the General Manager of KUDA to verify its authenticity.

According to him, the General Manager confirmed that neither KUDA nor any government agency had issued such a directive.

He said the Governor made it categorically clear that he had not authorized anyone to evict the traders and directed that they should remain at their current location and continue pursuing their legitimate means of livelihood.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, urged members of the association to always verify information affecting their businesses through the appropriate government authorities instead of relying on rumours circulating on social media.

He alleged that some unscrupulous politicians were using social media platforms to spread falsehoods aimed at misleading the public and discrediting the present administration as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

He therefore appealed to the association and the general public to sustain their support and cooperation with the administration to enable it consolidate on the achievements already recorded for the overall development of the state.

Responding Chairman of the association, Alhaji Faruq Umar, expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for swiftly intervening and reassuring members.

He said the Governor’s directive had relieved the traders and restored confidence, noting that the association would continue to support the administration while pursuing its legitimate business activities.
